Beth James lives in southern California and has been a hairstylist since 1977. Beth bought her first salon in 1984 when the industry was booming.
In the first year of opening her salon, she took advanced classes at the Videl Sasson Academy located in Los Angeles.
In the second year of business and every year after that, she traveled to Europe and Studied at a leading aesthetic school called Eszter Kozmetika where she learned everything anyone every needed to know about skin care, last tinting, waxing and the entire beauty biz.
She attended yearly European educational seminars along with the ones given in Long Beach, San Fransisco, Las Vegas and New York City. Her knowledge of the business came from the leaders in the industry including Videl Sasson, Paul Mitchel, Trevor Sorbie , Eszter Hajdu and other famous people who were top educators in the profession.
Beth mentored her beginner stylists, advancing them to become senior level cosmetologists. She also worked with people marketing their new products and education. She learned first hand what the beauty business is all about. Beth opened up her second salon in the mid 2000s where she saw drastic changes happening in the beauty industry.
Beth’s main reason for writing this book was to inform, advise and warn everyone wanting to enter the beauty field.
Beth has been gathering information from her own experiences working in and owning hair salon/spas. She has see the rapid decline in the industry for years.
While there are still a very few stars in the industry, there are more and more struggling to make ends meet. If you are a new stylist and this is happening to you, this book is for you!
